TP-LINK TL-SG108 8-Port 10/100/1000Mbps Desktop Gigabit Steel Cased Switch, IEEE 802.1p QoS, IGMP Snooping

In this day and age of “more is more”, sometimes you just need a simple product to do the job.

The TL-SG108 is that simple product if you need a simple Gigabit switch on your home network.

The unit looks and feels sturdy right out of the box. There is something about a metal enclosure that makes me think “quality” and “professional” right off the bat. The unit is also far from light for it’s small size.

The TL-SG108 has all the standard lights you expect on a switch: Power LED, Link, Speed, and Activity.

One thing to keep in mind if you are upgrading for the Gigabit: You must have Cat6 cable installed. If you have Cat5/5e, you will still be stuck at 100mb.

As I said, no bells and whistles here. You plug it in, plug in your cables, and you should be off and running. If you want software or monitoring that gives you a report, you’ll need to look at higher end switches.

Overall: 4 Stars. A simple switch that does it’s one job well.
