PF Changs on San Jacinto in Austin, TX

I had always wanted to go to PF Changs, but never had the chance until I attended SXSW last month. I ended up having dinner with a crowd of about 15 people. I was excited as I had heard good things about the restaurant. After a very long wait (20 minutes turned into nearly 90), we were seated. It wasn’t a really bad wait, I should say – I had really great company and the time flew by, their waiting area near the front is very comfortable and inviting. When we were seated, the server told us that we were all being given appetizers on the house because of the wait. Wow, I don’t think our group really complained (maybe I missed it?) but either way, super nice of them and it really started out the evening on a good note with lots of warm fuzzies for the restaurant.

Having never been there before, I decided to stay safe and chose the lemon chicken. It was absolutely divine and I would absolutely order the dish again. Everyone’s dishes looked really good, the presentation is very simple but beautiful. The restaurant itself is a little loud, the prices aren’t cheap, but they aren’t too bad either. Overall, we had a really nice evening with some really good food.

This would be a good choice again if I’m downtown with friends or out with my husband and another couple.

Rating: ★★★★☆

You know they have one up north, right? It’s right by the Arboretum. I rarely make it to the one downtown, but I’ve been to the north location several times. Chang’s owns Pei Wei, and many of the dishes are very similar (and much cheaper at Pei Wei), but there’s more selection and better ambiance at Chang’s.

They also have a good gluten-free menu, but watch out if soy is a problem, too.
