Bang Goes a Troll (Awfully Beastly Business) by David Sinden

This was my first time to read a book in this series. As such, I cannot really compare it to any others from this author. That said, just about anyone can jump right in with this book. Unlike some others, there is enough background information given that you can pretty much just start reading.

The book was listed as Juvenile Fiction. I really expected more from a book in this category. Found, Artemis Foul, and many other great series can be found listed under Juvenile fiction. This book read more like a Junie B. Jones book.

My husband is an aspiring 3rd or 4th grade teacher. He says that he might recommend this book for someone in 3rd grade that we a little below their reading level but really 8 years of age and below would enjoy this book more. Even then, there are better books available targeted for that age group.

Overall it is not a bad read. Just don’t expect your 12-year-old to actually stick with this series.

Description:
It’s A Troll Hunt!

When a messenger bat arrives at the RSPCB, boy-werewolf Ulf receives a warning that beasts are in trouble in the wild. Unaware of the danger he is facing, Ulf soon uncovers foul play: A rare colony of trolls is being smoked out from their caves to be used as game in an evil beast-hunting preserve. It’s up to Ulf to save the day!
