(Book) Murder Takes the Cake by Gayle Trent

100

Yay! I made it to 100 this year – just barely and I read some VERY short books this month to make it, but I did it ๐Ÿ™‚ Yes, it doesn’t matter, except in my head, but still ๐Ÿ™‚ Admittedly, I chose this book because it looked like a quick read and was one of the shorter ones I had to read…

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It’s not something I would have read had it not been a free title from Amazon, it’s not really my genre, but I decided to give it a shot. I’m glad I did (and I will be purchasing something else from this author). This is what is called a “cozy mystery”, which means usually light fluffy reads with a fun whodunit going on in the background. I liked the backdrop of a woman starting a new cake business. I like to decorate cakes (although I’m definitely an amateur!) so the talk about what she was doing and making and baking made me smile.

Give this one a shot. I liked that it was an easy book to put down and come back to. I also REALLY want spice cake with cream cheese frosting for some inexplicable reason.

Product Description

Cozy murder mystery. When the meanest gossip in Brea Ridge dies mysteriously, suspicions turn to cake decorator Daphne Martin. But all Daphne did was deliver a spice cake with cream cheese frosting–and find Yodel’s body. Now Daphne’s got to help solve the murder and clear her good name. Problem is, her Virginia hometown is brimming with people who had good reason to kill Yodel, and Daphne’s whole family is among them.
