(Movie) Lost Boys: The Tribe

I can quote most of the original while watching the movie. I’m really annoying like that. Tom and I even make weird little references now and then that come back to this movie. We are freaks. So, yeah, I’m a HUGE fan of the original.

I knew going in that this wasn’t going to be as good. It may have taken 20-some years, but it’s still a sequel. But I sat down with some girlfriends and we watched the original and then this one. I have to say that if you are a fan of the movie, you MUST watch the first one first. You will probably hate the second one otherwise.

There are a LOT of references to the original in this one. A lot of stolen lines, a reference to “The Goonies”, similar sequences, it’s less of a sequel and more of the actors paying homage to the original, in my opinion. It’s cheesy – like break out the Velveeta cheesy. It’s a little more gore than I like, to be honest. I had to look away several times.

Other highlights:
1. Make SURE you watch the Edgar’s Guide in the extras
2. Make SURE you watch the alternate endings
3. Corey Haim looks like he has lived hard
4. Corey Feldman is obviously a real vampire because he hasn’t aged at ALL. It’s creepy. We couldn’t even detect a wrinkle!
5. The guy playing the sax in the early part of the movie (homage to the hot guy in the first one). I DIED laughing.
6. Keifer Sutherland’s brother, Angus, playing the big bad leader. He actually does a decent job.
7. Wish I could say the same thing about the lead actress – the sister. She sucked.

No matter what. If you are a fan of the first, you simply must watch this. Watch the first one then the second back to back though for the full “What the heck”ism of it all.

The big question. When is the 3rd one coming out? Will Haim be back teamed up with Feldman? I must catch up on that reality show with them both as well.

The sequel to the 1987 cult hit The Lost Boys takes us to the shady surf city of Luna Bay, California, where vampires quickly dispatch anyone who crosses their path. Into this dark world arrive Chris Emerson (Hilgenbrink) and his younger sister, Nicole (Reeser). Having just lost their parents in a car accident, the siblings move in with their eccentric Aunt Jillian and become new prey for the locals way of life. When Nicole unwittingly falls for a local vampire, Chris must locate and destroy the gangs lifeline before his sisters transformation is complete; to do this Chris finds himself relying on the expertise of none other than Edgar Frog (Feldman). Subtle references to characters from the original film, and cameos from returning actors offer homage to the Lost Boys legend and set a sinister tone of impending doom.
